DDW Impressions: Van Abbe Museum
One of the reasons why Van Abbe Museum was impressive was the emphasis they put on audience engagement, in its true sense. It felt authentic and sincere, it felt like the commentary made by the audience would actually make a difference.
I liked their beyond art museum due to its fluctuate nature, that it was periodically being changed with new pieces. It was touching upon concepts like land, work and home. 3 words that keep changing their initial meaning as the world we live in redefines those meanings with changing practices in urbanism, post-capitalism and globalism.
Seeing some familiar faces of contemporary Turkish artists like Ahmet Öğüt, Füsun Onur was nice too. I found out that Ahmet Öğüt was actually one of the youngest artists in Van Abbe’s permanent collection.
Lastly, Ad Sneijder collection! They had divided the whole collection on all five floors, showing the change and progression in his work throughout different periods of time. My favorite period was what he did after WWII, combining elements of military with his authentic take on Pop Art.
